Explanation of Accessibility
The Regional Computing Center of the University of Hamburg and the developers of frentix GmbH are working to make the website www.openolat.uni-hamburg.de as accessible as possible. The legal basis for this is the Hamburg Law on the Equal Treatment of Disabled Persons (HmbGGbM) and the Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0).
To ensure OpenOlat meets these requirements, the initiative OOAccessibility has been launched. OpenOlat aims to support the four principles of accessibility (perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness). In 2022, OpenOlat underwent an extensive evaluation from the perspective of participants by the agency “Access for All” (www.access-for-all.ch). The first Accessibility Audit created a current assessment of OpenOlat in relation to the WCAG success criteria. In a second step, the findings were discussed, and appropriate solution approaches were chosen. The goal of the OOAccessibility initiative is certification according to WCAG 2.1. The necessary adjustments will be gradually implemented in OpenOlat in the upcoming releases. Numerous improvements have already been implemented with version 17.2. Further adjustments are being made with each update.
The two OpenOlat partners, VCRP and the University of Hamburg, are actively participating in OOAccessibility.
