Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence
As a University of Excellence, Universität Hamburg is one of Germany’s outstanding universities. Our vision of becoming a flagship university proved compelling in the national grant competition known as the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
We conduct top-level, internationally competitive research, also in cooperation with numerous partner institutions in Hamburg and around the world. This is reflected in, among other things, 4 Clusters of Excellence in the fields of astrophysics, photon sciences, climate research, and written artifacts research.
Goals of the University of Excellence
With a focus on climate or infection research, Universität Hamburg contributes to efforts to address some of the major challenges of today and tomorrow. We share our findings with policymakers, members of the corporate sector, and—above all—the public at large.
We can be a University of Excellence thanks to, among other things, funding for innovative research and the appointment of additional professors. These professors bring new ideas and contribute to the further development of tomorrow’s Clusters of Excellence.
